Gloss is an important aspect of our visual perception of objects. The perception of gloss can relate to a product’s finish, texture and how a sample is illuminated and viewed. Surfaces with high reflectance are perceived as glossy, shiny or lustrous, whilst less reflective surfaces are perceived as semi-gloss or matt. Gloss can be measured by several different techniques. One of them is by using an optical instrument called a gloss meter. A glossmeter provides quantifiable gloss measurements, expressed as gloss units (GU).
If the result is between 10 - 70GU, the coating is termed 'semi-gloss' and should be measured using the 60° angle on the glossmeter. If the result is less than 10GU, the product is 'low gloss' and should be measured using the 85° angle on the glossmeter and if it is greater than 70GU, the product is known as 'high gloss' and should be measured using the 20° angle on the glossmeter.
60 DEGREE GLOSSMETER, ideal for UV printing and coating operations, is a single angle instrument that measures gloss at 60 degrees. NHG60 60 degree gloss meter features with 60° angle, manufactured according to ISO2813 and GB/T 9754. It is also compatible with the standards of ASTM D523, ASTM D2457. NHG60 conforms to JJG696 first class gloss meter working requirement, corresponding with CIE 1931(2°) under CIE C light source.
NHG60 60 degree gloss meter can test material with high gloss (0-1000Gu), and universally apply to paint, ink, stoving varnish, coating, wood products; marble, granite, vitrified polished tile, pottery brick and porcelain; plastic, paper; hardware industries, etc. for gloss measurement and gloss data transmission when connecting to PC software.
Cautions
1)The 60 degree gloss meter is a precise measuring instrument. Please avoid dramatic change of external environment when measuring. Those changes including the flicker of surrounding light, the rapid change of temperature and humidity will affect the measuring accuracy.
2)Keep the instrument balanceable. Make sure the measuring aperture cling to the test sample, and no shaking or shifting when measuring. Please prevent the gloss meter from fierce collision or crash. This device is not water-proof. Do not use it in the environment of high humidity or in the mist.
3)Keep the device clean. Avoid dust, powder or solid particles entering the measuring aperture and the devices.
4)After using, please turn it off. Keep the instrument and calibration board in the instrument case.
5)Keep the instrument in a cool, dry environment.
6)Users can not do any changes on the device without permission. Since it may affect measuring accuracy or even damage the device.
If your sample is not very glossy, please choose 60 degree glossmeter for use. It meets international specifications for the measurements of gloss on paints, inks, paper, plastics, card and metals.
